Dodge, shoot and be Fabulous!

Once upon a time, there was a little astronaut called Astro. Yes, we are quite good at naming characters, thank you for noticing.

So, this little guy had one peculiarity. He loved cosplay and had assembled a great collection on his space station. Until this fateful day where he just had to push the red button… (Damn it Astro, we told you not to do it!)

Now that his space station has been destroyed, he has to survive as long as he can in the void of space to recover his dear costumes.

And... You are this little dummy guy, trying to survive in space while dodging things such as comets, black holes, missiles, and whatever the universe has in store for you.

A bit similar to a good old snake game, it is based on your ability to dodge obstacles thank to your zigzagging around, and your score will be dependent on how long you survive as well as the combos you’ve done. As you improve, your level rises and new elements appear, such as the beautiful and precious costumes of your astronaut.

The story behind Astropack, a game from the mind of a crazy penguin.

The last few years have seen nostalgia creep more and more into society, from everything vintage to the pixel art and finally, the retrogaming trend in videogames. Thanks to the internet and the greed… ahem… we mean, the originality of making you pay for emulators of old consoles, even new generations are bathing in that "old school" video game vibe.

Though it ended up following the retrogaming trend of games such as Zigzag from Ketchapp and Jetpack Joyride, Astropack was at first just a little dare from a fanboy to himself. He had 48 hours to make a completely functional videogame similar to the ones he played as a kid!

The goal of the creator was to make one purely as he liked when he discovered videogames for the first time, with no unnecessary option, design or story. So much so, that the first version literally seemed to be straight out of the seventies, like the famous Pong and Asteroids games.

But it was fun!

During the first 24h our dear dev and creator of this game, Ilann Joaquim, was the only player. However, this didn't last long. Quickly, his relatives got curious as to what he was doing, asking him questions, giving ideas, until he finally let them try the first version successfully completed during his 48H challenge.

What he didn't expect though, was how much they would love it.

During the next week he kept getting returns from friends and family asking him to develop this further. "Why not?", he said to himself.

So, naturally, he brought it to his team full of passionate gamers, Nomnomgames. First was the designer, his life partner, who turned this little arcade game into the full on colorful space game you see today. Then there was the scenarist, creating depth as to why was that Astronaut wearing such weird suits and lost in space. And so on until …

…the full team started working on it! Everyone would be bringing new ideas to the tables, working hard on the music, the marketing, the gameplay… Each collaboration brought a unique characteristic and much love to the table.

And finally, our #littlepenguins (beta testers and community) got into it, definitely launching our little Astronaut into space, where he is now reaching for the stars!
